This article examines how a material-driven design approach using the snow glass technique shapes design processes and outcomes within Arctic product design. Focusing on Arctic glass design, the study explores how snow, as a locally available and temporary natural material, can be integrated into multiple stages of glass design and making processes. The research combines student perspectives on Arctic product design, collaborative practice-based experimentation with Arctic glass design, and experienced practitioners’ insights concerning the snow glass technique. The findings indicate that snow functions not only as a reference to Arctic environments but also as a processual element influencing material behaviour, form development, and surface qualities. The study identifies the distinctive characteristics of the snow glass technique and contributes to discussions on material-driven and context-sensitive approaches within Arctic glass design practices.
