About the Journal
Focus and Scope
FLEKS – Scandinavian Journal of Intercultural Theory and Practice is a double-blind peer-reviewed, open access journal. The journal focuses on the following topics: intercultural communication, cross-cultural studies, intercultural educational science, psychology and philosophy, multicultural studies, professions in different societies, language, interpreting, translation, development studies, migration health, and diversity management.
FLEKS provides an academic platform for professionals and researchers to contribute innovative work in the field. It publishes original and full-length articles that reflect the latest research and developments in both the theoretical and the practical aspects of intercultural theory and practice. Grounded in a Scandinavian context, characterized by prioritizing no single theoretical horizon or methodological approach, the journal creates a space for development of the field of research.
Guide for guest editors:
FLEKS welcomes guest editors with proposals for special issues. Guest editors must have professorial qualifications or senior competence, and previous experience with editorial work. Proposals for special issues can be sent to:
Proposals must contain the following:
- The name and position of the guest editor/s.
- The guest editor's CV.
- Two relevant references, with contact details.
- A 300-word description of the topic.
- A table of contents listing the authors, or a call for papers. The latter requires a description of how the call for papers will be publicized and how the authors will be selected.
- A budget for proofreading and other expenses, and information on how these expenses will be covered.
The guest editor/s must provide the following documentation in their CVs:
- Experience with / interest in intercultural issues
- Research in relevant fields
- Experience with editorial work
Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement
The following points are intended to provide an overview of our general commitments. The list is not exhaustive of the duties of those involved in the journal.
1. Duties of the journal
FLEKS – Scandinavian Journal of Intercultural Theory and Practice is committed to meeting and upholding standards of ethical behaviour at all stages of the publication process. The key principles are fairness, transparency and integrity.
We actively seek the views of authors, readers, reviewers and editorial board members about ways of improving our journal’s processes.
We continuously assess the effects of our journal policies on author and reviewer behaviour and revise policies, as required, to encourage responsible behaviour and discourage misconduct.
The journal ensures that all published articles are double-blind peer-reviewed.
We are committed to ensuring that advertising, reprint or other commercial revenue has no impact or influence on editorial decisions.
Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review will be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage
2. Duties of authors
All authors must confirm that all the work in the submitted manuscript is original and has not been published elsewhere.
Content reproduced from other sources must be acknowledged.
Authorship of the paper must be accurately represented. This includes ensuring that all individuals credited as authors participated in the actual authorship of the work and that all who participated are credited and have given consent for publication.
Authors are expected to be forthright with any possible issues concerning the appropriateness of publishing the manuscript.
3. Duties of reviewers
Reviewers agree to contribute to the decision-making process and to assist in improving the quality of the published paper by reviewing the manuscript objectively, in a timely manner.
Reviewers must notify the editor of competing interests that could result in biased decisions.
Reviewers are committed to confidentiality of the review process and manuscripts must not be presented to others except as authorized by the editor.
