Sammendrag

This study explores how international and domestic students interact in a university craft course. Earlier research has shown that interaction between international and domestic students is often limited, while studies in craft education highlight craft as a communicative subject. The present study connected these fields by examining (1) how international students interact with domestic students and (2) what observable factors influence or trigger their interaction. The analysis was based on observations of video recordings from a craft course. The findings indicate that students engage with each other on their craft projects, tools, techniques, materials, personal aspects and language and cultural topics. A key factor initiating interaction is the presence of a physical craft project, which provides a shared focus that encourages communication.
