The technological development of image editing and image sharing has in recent decades changed how images are used as a medium in art, culture and communication. This presents new issues related to the use of images. This article addresses challenges teachers face when teaching tomorrow's consumers and producers of visual works, and asks what teachers need to be aware of in their teaching so that the students acquire the tools they need to be informed, critical and responsible in their actions. The article presents and unpacks some of the complexities of the Norwegian Copyright Act and elaborates on key issues in the context of education and in society in general in a visual and digital age. The text has an educational focus and discusses the issues from the perspective of the school subject Art and Crafts.
