Abstract

In this article I do a critical discourse-oriented reading of the subject plan of visual art to illuminate how the terms quality and artistic quality appear in the plan. The aim of this article is to contribute to increased knowledge about how the concepts of quality and artistic quality can be understood as a discursive constructed concept in the Norwegian framework plan for Municipal Music and Art Schools. When the concept of quality is brought into the context of Municipal Music and Art Schools, it becomes interesting to investigate various understandings that are shared and negotiated between actors within the school context. By analyzing the subject plan of Visual Arts in light of the curriculum's consultation draft, The Strategy 2020 of schools of music and performing art, General part of the Framework plan for the cultural school : Diversity and Specialization, the Guidance for local planning and the home page www.kulturskoleradet.no, I try to demonstrate how the concept of quality and understanding of quality and artistic quality are lifted as a strategic move to ensure good teaching practice in the various classrooms Municipal Music and Art Schools.
