Author Guidelines

Articles have to adhere to the focus and scope of SJVD as outlined in the section About the Journal.

Publishing in SJVD is free of charge. To ease the publishing process, the editors kindly ask contributors to conform to these Author Guidelines.

Languages
SJVD accepts manuscripts in English (UK or US) and Scandinavian languages.

Editorial Review
The SJVD editors perform an initial editorial review of all submitted manuscripts. If deemed within the scope of the journal and potentially possessing the qualities for publication it will be sent for review by at least two reviewers. The review process is double blinded. The reviewers will review the article and suggest to the editorial group if it should be accepted, if it requires revisions and further considerations or if it should be rejected (with or without the possibility to resubmit). Based on these recommendations the editorial group will make their decision.

Double-blind Peer-review
The manuscript file (Microsoft Word) and other media files have to be completely anonymised (including the files’metadata) i.e. omit all direct or indirect personal and institutional information about the author(s) to enable the double-blind peer-review process.

Please provide a separate document with contact information, including the title of the article, name and contact details for the corresponding author, name(s) and email address(es) of the author(s), a short note of biographical details, and contact details for suggested potential peer-reviewers within their fields. Please upload this document together with the manuscript when submitting.

SJVD encourages authors to support the peer-review process by suggesting qualified potential peer-reviewers within the fields of their articles.

Outcomes of the review process
The review process might have one of four outcomes:

  • The article is suitable for publication without changes
  • Only minor adjustments are required before publication
  • The article may only be published after major revisions
  • The article is not suitable for publication in SJVD

The editors will decide the need for a new review process if they accept the manuscript on the condition of revision.

Use of Artificial Intelligence
Large Language Models such as ChatGPT cannot be listed as co-authors and should not be included in the reference list. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) as a research tool, for example, in designing questionnaires and analyzing data, must be described in the methodology section of the article. AI tools can be used for text improvement and copyediting; such use does not need to be declared. This use includes tasks like finding synonyms, ensuring readability, and checking for spelling and grammatical errors. However, the authors must ensure that the final version of the text reflects their original work.

The manuscript
The word limit is 8000 words, exclusive reference list and endnotes.

Please download and use The article Template when you prepare your manuscript.

Articles in a Scandinavian language have to have a title (and sub-title) both in the Scandinavian and the English language. Furthermore, they have to have two abstracts, one in the Scandinavian and one in the English language. Abstracts contain 250 - 300 words each. A list of three to five keywords follows each of the abstracts. Articles in the Scandinavian language have two sets of keywords, one in the Scandinavian and one in the English language.
