The Drawing School in Christiania was founded in 1818. In the teaching, drawing education was central. Since its inception in 1818, this was modeled by the European Art Academy. This changed towards the late 1800s, in line with the technological developments in Europe that made new demands for the drawing industry. The ideals were taken from the École Polytechnique in Paris.
