Focus and Scope
HRER is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal that publishes high quality, original articles in English. The journal will only publish manuscripts that have been through a blind peer review process. This will be conducted by two or more referees whose field of expertise is pertinent to the subject area. The journal ensures full editorial quality of all submissions. Until the manuscript is published, it will be treated with confidentiality by the editorial team and reviewers in terms of all personal information.
Human Rights Education Review aims to make a key contribution to the fast-developing and interdisciplinary field of human rights education. The journal particularly welcomes contributions at the intersection of human rights and diversity studies in education. It is an independent, peer-reviewed, open-access (gold model), online journal. Human Rights Education Review covers all levels of education, from early childhood through to higher education, professional education and lifelong learning.
Human Rights Education Review provides a forum for research and critical scholarship on human rights and diversity in education. The journal is dedicated to an examination of human rights education theory, philosophy, policy, and praxis. Human Rights Education Review provides opportunities for scholars to contribute to debates and critical thinking in the expanding field of human rights education and addresses these issues as they relate to citizenship, identity and belonging.
The journal invites high quality international scholarly papers in English, that stimulate innovation and debate, present empirical research, promote theoretical development in the field, review research, and encourage reflective practice. The journal’s core audience is scholars, students, policy-makers, and all engaged in human rights education and related fields, in schools and universities, professional settings and non-governmental organizations. The editors of Human Rights Education Review welcome contributions from scholars in the educational sciences, social and political sciences, legal and cultural studies, peace studies, development studies and related fields.
By publishing in this open access online journal, you will enable your research and scholarship to reach an optimum audience. Papers should be between 5,000 and 8,000 words in length, including references.
Peer Review Process
Manuscripts will be acknowledged by the Human Rights Education Review editorial team upon receipt. Following a preliminary editorial screening process, we will send your anonymised paper out to reviewers who have expertise in the subject of your article. Each paper will be reviewed by a minimum of two experts. Reviewers are asked to consider the quality of the scholarship; the significance of the research; lucidity; originality; and the interest of the paper to HRER readers.
The review process will typically take three months. Authors should expect to hear from the editors within that time regarding the status of their manuscript. Human Rights Education Review uses the blind review system. Reviewers are themselves published authors, normally with a doctoral qualification. The names of referees are published annually in a subsequent volume of the journal.

Human Rights Education Review shall publish one volume per year with two issues per volume. Contributions to the journal may be published on an on-going basis, as soon as peer and editorial processing is finished. However, it is also possible to customize the publishing frequency of publications, publish special issues more sporadically, or produce a series of individual publications.
Open Access Policy
Human Rights Education Review provides open access to its contents, which means that all articles are available on the internet to all users immediately upon publication. Non-commercial use and distribution in any medium is permitted, provided the author and the journal are properly credited.

The ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) is an eight-digit number which identifies periodical publications as such, including electronic serials.
